'EAT YOUR GREENS TO GIVE SOME GREENS' DONATION DAY

Whole Foods will donate $1 for every pound of food purchased at it's salad bars and hot food bars to help put more salad bars in local schools!

If I remember correctly, the school cafeteria menus consisted of pizza, french fries, hamburgers and chocolate milk. There were no veggies or fruits to choose from and no healthy alternatives. Well, thanks to the Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools Initiative and  The Whole Kids Foundation, that is all about to change. By the end of 2013, an estimated 6,000 schools around the country may be offering healthy salad bar options to their students as part of their lunch menus! To date, the Let's Move Salad bars to Schools Initiative has raised an estimated $3,700,000 and have currently granted $1,440 salad bars to schools in America.

The Whole Kids Foundation, member of the Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools Initiative, exists to end the childhood obesity epidemic by supporting schools and inspiring families to improve children's nutrition and wellness. In 2010, the Whole Kids Foundation and Whole Foods Shoppers raised enough money to fund over 500 salad bar grants to schools! Whole Foods and the Whole Kids Foundation continue to promote healthy eating in schools by encouraging more fruits and vegetables!

Join Whole Foods, the Whole Kids Foundation and the Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools Initiative to help give our kids the opportunity to make healthy decisions that will benefit them for a lifetime.

Here are some frequently asked questions about “Eat Your Greens to Give Some Green” donation day?

What is the “Eat Your Greens to Give Some Green” donation day?

This is the consumer marketing campaign developed to promote Whole Foods Market ‘buy a salad, give a salad’ initiative that supports putting salad bars and other healthy eating programs in schools.  This is one of the major programs of the Whole Kids Foundation in partnership with the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.

What stores will participate in the “Eat Your Greens to Give Some Green” donation day?

The $1 per pound donation will be made based on total salad and hot food bar sales for all So Pac regional stores. All stores are encouraged to support the initiative with the tools provided in this kit.

Which metro area(s) will benefit from the donations?

Donations will be tracked and earmarked for each metro area, so the donation amount will reflect the success of each area’s campaign and will benefit schools in that specific metro area.  Schools that apply for the grant in each metro will be eligible.  The donation will be made to the Whole Kids Foundation, which will manage this process with the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.

What food is eligible and how will pounds be measured?

Any item purchased by the pound from a salad or hot food bar on Sept. 9 from opening to closing qualifies for the donation.  To determine the final donation, all pounds of salad/food purchased from the day will be added and then rounded up to the next pound to determine the final donation amount.

How are salad bars distributed to schools?

Local schools apply for salad bar grants through the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative, which then works with the Whole Kids Foundation and other supporters to raise money to fund the grants.  Learn more at www.wholefoodkidsfoundation.org and www.saladbars2schools.org
