Since my son is only 10 months old, our activities are a bit limited, but we certainly have our fair share of fun! Our typical, daily fun is simple....at home, playing, just me and him. As every parent knows, the days pass so quickly, our children grow up so fast! One day he had trouble crawling the makeshift ramp I made in the living room out of the couch cushions while the next day he conquered the ramp and discovered the "hidden tunnel" the ramp created underneath. It's amazing! I am still trying to attempt to freeze time. These days are going by way too fast!
Outside the realm of our home, we explore the world outside through frequent walks in the neighborhood. One may think I am crazy, but during these walks I talk to my son constantly...about the trees, the birds, the kids on the streets, etc. He seems to like it though. When I'm not chatting he tries to look at me to make sure I'm still there :). Living in LR gives us access to great trails. We often explore different trails and make pit stops along the way at small parks. I unroll the blanket and give him some room to explore. I will often lie down on the blanket and he crawls all over me....on lazier days he just sits, listening to me talk and just watching everything around him. It's in these moments that I sit and think that there will come a time (sooner rather than later) that he won't do this; he will be up running while I am chasing. It's in moments like this that I am reminded about how important it is to live in the moment....to enjoy the present.....and to take TONS of pictures! Maybe this is why I have my camera with me EVERYWHERE I go....the park, the grocery store, the mall, EVERYWHERE!!!
If I had to choose a "real" activity out of the house, I would say Gymboree. Austin has been going to Gymboree since he was 3 months old and the smile that shines on his face when we walk in the door tells me he's having a pretty good time. Not only is this activity great for Austin, it gives me a chance to get out of the house and talk to other adults. Sure, before I had my son, I would have thought it was extremely corny/dorky/dumb/silly (insert your own word here) to get in a circle with other parents, talk "parenty" stuff, sing songs to our kids with not such good voices, and do anything including perhaps standing on our head to see our child crawl to the ball or through the tunnel....but now...it's awesome. To see his face light up at every "corny" move I make; it's totally worth it.
Whether we are inside, outside or at Gymboree....we are having fun! Enjoying the moment. Laughing. And taking TONS of pictures :).

Hi Dianna. I live in Aliso Viejo. Your son is almost 2 right? How time flies... I would love to meet you and your son.
Thank you, Courtney, for the sweet words. My son truly is my inspiration and when I write about him and our experiences, it comes so easy.
Oh, 7 months! I hate to say it, but the time continues to fly. It's certainly a fast rollercoaster....so fun and exilerating! Embrace every moment because around each corner brings new experiences and joys.
Merry Christmas to you as well. Perhaps we could get together for a playdate one day. Where do you live?
Dianna, I am so impressed by you as a mother and a writer. I am moved by your words. My son is turning 7 months old this Thursday and I feel like he's already growing sooo fast. I ditto your sentiments. We DO need to live in the moment and treasure every second of it...
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Courtney
