Cora's Dr. Seuss "It's Fun to Be One" party is our BIG Winner for "A Bithday to Remember"! Reba (Cora's Mommy) held the party at Bill Barber Park in Irvine on April 28. Since it was Dr. Seuss themed, they made up several of their own rhymes. It all started with the invitation, which they had made with this rhyme:
The time has come. The time is now!
Cora is ONE! Time flew, somehow?!
We’re having a party! We’ll give a cheer
to celebrate all her growing last year.
You can come on skates, you can come on skis,
you can come in a hat, but please come, please!
April’s the month, 28th is the day.
We’ll laugh, eat treats, and play play play!
Please be there by 10, we’ll be in Irvine,
at Bill Barber Park, hope the weather is fine!
Would you, could you? Don’t say no!
Please tell us that you can go!
Respondez s’il vous plait by April 21
To us, “yes” is best and “no” is the worst!
Their menu was all Seuss-themed as well, including the "green ham" cake (pictured), handmade by Daddy - his first EVER carved cake!
They also had:
Green Eggs (Green Deviled Eggs) from Green Eggs & Ham
Ring the Gack Rings (Bagels) from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish served with Fleas' Freezy Breeze Tree's Cheese (Cream Cheese) from Fox in Socks
Grinitch Spinach Quiche (mini quiches) from The Sneetches and Other Stories
Greedy Ape Green Grape Cakes (Green Grapes) from Oh Say Can You Say?
Red Fish, Blue Fish (Swedish Fish and Blue Gummy Sharks) from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
Fish in a Pot (Goldfish served in a teapot) from Cat in the Hat
Hat Cat Cat Hats (Strawberry and Marshmallow skewers) from Cat in the Hat
Foona Lagoona Baboona Bananas (Bananas) from The Sleep Book
Ritzy Fritz Food (Red, White, and Aqua M&Ms) from Oh Say Can You Say?
Pink Ink Yink Drink (pink lemonade) from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
Moose Juice (orange juice) from The Sleep Book served with Moose Juice Boost (champagne)
Goose Juice (coffee) from The Sleep Book
And all of it was served on Ish Wish Dishes from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
They had several of the books used as decorations, as well as tissue paper puffs and paper spirals hanging around the pavilion in red and aqua. They had a hand-made birthday banner and red and white balloons hanging around the pavilion.
Their favors were the most fun - they made the Cat in the Hat's "big red wood boxes" out of hand-dyed red popsicle sticks and then filled them with all kinds of Dr. Seuss themed goodies - a crazy straw, because nothing in Seuss books is straight, a mini tub of playdough to make all the crazy creatures in the books, a red and white striped lollipop, some Dr. Seuss character stickers, and a handmade bookmark and packet of seeds. The bookmarks were made from the Cat in the Hat book - they cut out pictures from the pages and mounted them on cardstock with ribbon. The seeds were "Bippolo Seeds" - a handmade envelope full of zinnia seeds with this poem printed on the outside - an homage to The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories.
Who finds this rare gift will be lucky, indeed,
for inside this envelope are Bippolo Seeds!
Plant them and wish! Then count up to three!
Whatever* you wish for, whatever it be
will sprout and grow out of a Bippolo Tree!
*Wish for Zinnias
Last but not least, they used the Dr. Seuss book Happy Birthday to You! as the guestbook for the event, and posted this poem we wrote next to the book asking guests to sign it as a lasting memory for the day.
Before you run off to play,
please write a note for my big day!
A birthday wish or lovely toast?
Addressed to me - your mini-host!
On the front, the back, or any pages,
It’s something I’ll treasure all my ages!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You So!
NOW it’s time to play, so GO!
