From very early on, my daughter was a great nighttime sleeper. She slept through the night at 2.5 months old. People always seemed shocked at how rested I seemed and I was happy to brag about my perfect little sleeping baby. Though she was never a good napper, I'd take sleeping all night over having little free time in the day because I LOVE to sleep!!
And then suddenly it has all come to an end.....starting about a month ago (at 10 months old) she suddenly decided that she…

Hi Mommies!
My daughter is almost 21 months old and takes one nap a day (usually mid-day to late afternoon). My question to all of you with toddlers is what is your nap time routine?
I work outside the home Mon-Fri and she takes amazing naps at school for her teacher (on a cot without any fussing or problems) but when it comes to Sat & Sun naps my husband & I have resorted to planning our days events around being within 10 minutes of home so she can…

Is she sleeping through the night?
When I was a new mom, I got this question all the time. It seemed like everyone needed to know if my baby was sleeping through the night. Infact, it was like after birth, the next biggest event in her life was expected to be sleeping through the night. And if she wasn't doing that, then on came the pouring of (well meaning) advice on how to get her to do this.
Most of what was advised was sleep training that involved actively working with her, perhaps maybe a night or two of crying…

Top tips for sticking to your New Year's Resolutions!
As 2010 comes to a close, the favorite American pastime of making New Year's resolutions begins. Many people approach a new year with a fresh perspective, renewed motivation and a promise to themselves (and maybe others) that this is the year they ____________ (fill in the blank- 1. Lose weight, 2. Find balance, 3. Help Janie finally kick the binky habit...)

One of the most common questions I get is "how do I get my picky eater to eat healthy foods"? This is definitely a difficult task and unfortunately there is no quick easy solution.
I found this article in the New York Times that beautifully goes through the steps you need to take.

My Little Big Christmas
When I was growing up, Christmas was different than it is here in the States. I grew up in Dominican Republic and for one, the holiday that we received gifts was Los Tres Reyes (The Three Kings Day) and not Christmas. On Los Tres Reyes, we received our toys. I should actually say - our toy. Singular and not plural, as we each received one toy each. It wasn't because we were poor. Sure, just like a lot of families…

Kemby Sidekick Bliss
Has anyone got one of these? They were the steal of the day on Babysteals.com last week and I couldn't resist buying one. (they make it so darn easy to order something. three clicks on my iphone and i had bought it!lol) Anyway, I've been having issues when I want to go for a short walk with my 5 month old in the Bjorn or Ergo. With the Bjorn which she loves to ride in, I have to wear a backpack to hold the essentials. So I look like a pack mule! And with the Ergo, she doesn't really…

Creating New Family Traditions
My husband and I were in line at Toys R Us last weekend, finalizing our Santa gift list. I was so excited, envisioning Christmas morning, when my daughter walks down the stairs, only to find a plethera of presents and toys that Santa had left her (I think I'm more excited than she is). I was remembering back to the days when I was a kid. My parents would wake us up on Christmas morning and tell us that Santa had came... my sister and I each got a chance to run out to the living room, take a…

My daughter, Molly, is 20 months and attends a preschool 3 days a week. This is the first year she's attended this school during the holidays and to my surprise they were actually trying to put on a holiday show. At first I was completely skeptical that they could get my strong-willed toddler to participate and then I hear they not only intend to have her be apart of the show, but she'll also be wearing a costume! My skepticism moved to plain old laughter- yeah right, like my kid who would…

What is "Mommy Thumb" ?
I swear I had this when Colin was young, and I hate to admit it but I think it was from my frequent smartphone scrolling....
De Quervain's tendinitis, "Mommy Thumb" is a rare-sounding ailment affecting as many as 50 percent of new moms. De Quervain's tendinitis is an irritation of the thumb tendons that causes anything from mild soreness to an intense pain that radiates up to the wrists.
The triggers:

You know You've Changed Too Many Diapers When...
You Can Go Into a Room of 10 plus toddlers and pin point exactly when it was YOUR child who "done it"
A few weeks ago, I took my daughter for a playdate with a few of her friends. As it always goes, at least one has a #2 diaper change. When one of my friends said, "someone pooped",I got a wiff of what she was referring to. "No, that's not mine", I said confidently, without even having to check a diaper. And sure enough, my sense of smell and my familiarity with my kids diapers was…

You rarely hear mothers sharing the good aspects of breastfeeding and for a new mom I think those first months can be so awful that it's hard to believe there are any good aspects! Yes, I know even as some of you read this you are thinking, "this lady must be crazy!" And yes, I know I am not alone in my journey in toddler breastfeeding. Many people ask me…
