A Co-op is a group of moms who agree to trade baby-sitting hours on a point basis. No more hunting and begging for a sitter. Make that appointment without even checking. It works. You can depend on it. And the sitter will always be a trusted friend.

Aug 31,2010 Meeting II Re cap****************

First off Thank you to Michelle Mills for hosting us on Sunday, it was great!

The second meeting was great and helped us to solidify some final points.
1) as stated previously all members will submit to a background check as well as anyone in the household over the age of 15. This check is criminal only and does not effect credit scores etc. Any incident of any sexual activity on a record and the member will not be allowed to join the group. Any felony within the last 5 years on the primary care giver (mom) will not be allowed to join the group. Michelle Scott because she is insured to do so for her job is the only one who has access to these records, the other members will never see or hear why or how a member was not allowed to join in fact. potential new members step 1) will be their back ground checks, and then step 2) I will go through them how everything works and then step 3) they will meet everyone in the group.

2) because we have made all of the above changes. THIS group on OC Mommies, will be informational only and a second one will be started and set to "private" ( I won't change anything for a few weeks though)

3) Once back ground checks are cleared, I will call each member and go through the setting up of the site, and each member will have 3 credit hours to begin with. From there...

4) go for it! Need a date night? Check the calendar and see who can sit for you!

5) our next meeting/playdate will be around Oct 9. Is that ok for everyone?

Oh and all new members once approved in background check MUST attend a playdate/meeting to be activated on the website.
6) annnd Lastly MInh has gathered all the information and will be sending out a roaster soon

Meeting 1 recap ********************************************
Just to recap the meeting. (Thanks Minh for hosting)
1) the Smart Moms Baby sitting Coop website has been set up. I will start as the Leader and Minh will start as the Secretary and we will all rotate over time in these roles.
2) I will send Minh the code to sign in so she can create her page and then each other member will create the code.
3) The 5 of us that attended the meeting will be assigned 3 credit hours for the month of August to use... we have decided that most of us (not a requirement) will be using these to do "in home" sits. This a) allows some of us to get some work done at home, while keeping the kiddos in a familiar environment with a "stranger" but mommy is not far away, and over time as they get to know us and as we get to know each other there will be a higher level of comfort.
4) This "group" on OC mommies will remain private and those interested in joining will have to be accepted.
5) Minh and I will be doing the home visits over the next month and putting the official rules and regs together
6) Michelle Scott will be doing the background checks on us and out hubs and any one over the age of 15 in the household of the other moms. This is a REQUIREMENT, of all members.
7) There will be a meeting/playdate every other month, it is required that every NEW member attend, and that every existing member make it a priority to attend, New members can not be accepted without attendance.
8) We 5 will be sort of toughing it out/testing the waters for the next month using our 3 hours of sit time to see how it goes, and get familiar with the site. As we grow and get more comfortable it will be easier to bring other moms into the group.

Is everyone comfortable setting up a meeting end of August? I know we talked about Sept, but If we do it in 4 weeks, it gives the moms that didn't make it this time to jump in and start meeting us.

Semi-Annual Kids' Clothing and Gear Sale

Each spring and fall, SMOMC hosts a Babies' and Kids' Clothing and Gear Sale. The sale is open to the general public in addition to SMOMC club members. This is a great opportunity for club members to sell and purchase gently used infant and children's clothing, toys and equipment.

I'd still like to join and get background checks for me and my husband, what do I need to do now? And is there some way to have an earlier playdate so I can get active faster? Maybe on a Saturday :) Lastly, I'm looking for someone to watch my child on a regular basis once a week, I in turn would be happy to watch someone elses' on my days off, is this plausible through this group?

I am re-joining now that I have needed a sitter so many times (for dumb doctors appts etc...). I think this is the best way to help each other out when we have appts we know about in advance or want to plan a date night. So I am in! Just in time! xoxo
