Wedding Advice
Ok moms! There is nothing official but there is talk of a wedding next year. It will be a budget wedding but preferably close to if not on the water. Does anyone have any suggestions on venues, great places to buy dresses, rings, etc.? Any and all advice/suggestions are welcome.

I am from north orange county & found amazing prices on dresses in the smaller boutiques in Anaheim/north OC. My dress was hands down the cheapest part of the wedding- I think with alterations included it cost under $200!

When we were looking we couldn't find too many places by the water that were inexpensive. We found that the LH & MV Community Centers were the best prices for our budget & guest list size. The MV center has a nice patio with plants that are native to CA and several of the rooms are adjacent to the patio. But I liked the fountains and butterfly garden at the LH center better for a ceremony before the reception.The Aliso Viejo Country Club was very nice too, great patio for a ceremony/reception. They also had big tv's that you can play photo collages on. But they were higher priced than the other two.
For catering we looked into Azzara's, La Finestra & Country Gardens. You can view their menus & pricing online. We didn't do any tastings though.
Dress - David's Bridal has a $99 dress sale every January.
I may have more....I'll take a look around this weekend. : )

My husband and I renewed our vows in Santa Barbara last year. Most of the beaches in this area either didn't give permits through the summer (HB), or didn't allow large groups on the beach at all (Balboa). You can get married on the beach in Balboa, but no chairs are allowed to be set up and you kind of have to make it quick. We were living in NC at the time so we needed places that would do everything. There is a little restaurant in Balboa that is right near the pier that was the best priced place in the area for receptions as far as appetizers, food, and alcohol being included.
Santa Barbara worked for us because we were able to set up on the beach, with a permit (I can ask DH how much it cost). There are little community centers right on the beach that you can rent for super cheap and either have catered by a local chain restaurant (they are cheaper than any others) or have a potluck-style reception. San Diego also specializes in beach weddings. If you don't have a large guest list, I have found all inclusive packages through google searches. The officiant sets the whole wedding up, but most are in locations where your guests will have to stand. This only posed a problem for us because my husband had his grandparents and other relatives that just had to have seating available.
For dresses, I got my first dress from Craigslist, loved it but it was not a beach wedding dress. OnceWed.com has gently used, gorgeous dresses. I finally bought my dress from J. Crew. Oddly enough, their only wedding garment store is here in CA. You work with their wedding apparel associate Ashley, who is super fun and will give you a discount if you buy from them. I got my dress for a little over $200. It was simple and completely made of silk.
We did a ton of research because we were committed to getting married with our feet on the beach. Let me know if have any other questions, or if I can help at all.
Oh yeah, for the rings, my BF and her husband went to the jewelry district in LA.

Wow thanks ladies! I will definitely look into those suggestions. I was contemplating renting a house in Malibu that would over look the beach & you could have the wedding in the backyard. Anyone have experience with something like that? I was thinking that would make it so we could cook and not have to do catering. I want it to be casual and informal but still a wedding. The guest list will be 50-100 people, most likely the lesser amount.

Yes, we were totally going to do this but we were sooo far away that it would not have worked for us logistically. There are some GREAT properties all up and down the coast. Yeah, we had about 64 people at our wedding but it ended up feeling like a lot of people.
Not to sound tacky but Bucca di Beppo, Carrabas and some of the fish taco places had really great prices for catering (and super easy cleanup). You don't really want to be cleaning up after your wedding.
Our wedding was very informal- most people wore jeans, capris, and summer dresses. If you stay in the off-summer months, the rates for rentals are great.

Congratulations! This couple are great wedding videographers and you will not find a lower price. They do a mini-movie - like a music video of your wedding and meet with you before to get your vision for your wedding so they best can capture it for you. At the end of the day all that remains of your big day are the photo's and video. They will travel too.

I thought of something else. Check out the parks in Dana Point: http://www.danapoint.org/index.aspx?page=314. I know you can rent them for the ceremony. It's pretty inexpensive, they are beautiful and most have an ocean view. But you have to get all the chairs and do setup & clean up. I have used Baker party rentals in Costa Mesa before and was very happy.

We got married in a little neighborhood park that over looked the water in San Clemente the total for the permit was $29, our rental chairs etc. where $150 and we had my cousins move them to the reception area immediately after (while we were taking pictures) and our reception was just at a local restaurant, and my dress was $130 from Davids bridal. We got flowers from the Carlsbad flower mart the thursday before the wedding, cranked up the ac in my dads hotel room, and did the flowers ourself. It was def a budget, do it your self wedding, but still had the feel of a wedding
