aaawww Dawn! Thanks for posting this! I had thought I should post something about this too a few weeks ago. It is almost impossible for us to both sit and eat with Gigi at a restaurant of late. All she wants to do is get out and walk. I too wondered what toys would keep her interested and not annoy everyone else. I looked at BRU for some kind of nintendo DS type thing for 1 year olds, but could only find stuff for 3 years up.
For the car, I have a mixed bag of little toys that light up or make noises when buttons are pushed. The ones you usually find in the baby sections of all stores like Target etc. But i don't know if that will work for 70 miles a day! Are you ok with dvds? what about a portable dvd player?
Looking forward to hearing more suggestions on this!
We've had good luck as of late with drawing. I have a chalkboard/placemat thing that rolls up that I keep in the car and Audrey loves drawing on it, or making requests for us to draw. The nice thing is you can wipe it clean with a baby wipe so she never runs out of drawing surface. We also have a high chair that attaches to the table, which is nice, because a lot of places have high chairs that are below the level of the table so drawing wouldn't be possible. It usually bides us enough time to get the meal at a restaurant. I can't help with the car, Audrey is usually content looking out the window or talking to herself. I do have books and small toys in the car but often after a few minutes they wind up getting tossed on the floor. If she's really fidgety for whatever reason my go to is an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse downloaded to my phone.
I briefly looked at this at BRU this evening. The reviews are bad though. A pity, because I thought it could have helped.
Sticker books work great too!!!!! We take them out to eat with us and it keeps him occupied or awhile. DVD players are always a hit with us too...
