Hi Mommies - I was just wondering if anyone expereinced severe reflux and/or hiccups during their pregnancy? I'm almost 38 weeks and can barely eat anything. I went to a GI Specialist yesterday and he basically told me that I should stay away form solid food and sip on protein shakes throughout the day. Does he realize that I'm prego and REALLY hungry?!?!?

I went through this with my first, Colin,  for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy and now I'm dealing with it again!!!! I literally get the hiccups 24/7...I wake up in the middle of the night with them!!! If I eat more than a few bites of food I feel like I'm going to vomit. I'm down to eating rice cakes, yogurt and small peices of protein bars. If I have a regular meal I vomit.

These are the questions I have:

If you've been through something similar, what helped you, if anything?

Was your Dr. concered about getting enough nutrition to the baby?

HELP!

I lived on TUMS the last few months of my pregnancy. Like I told you today even water gave me the worst heartburn. I still get heartburn- way worse now then before my pregnancy. I wish I could help by telling you something to make it stop but I never got mine to stop- all I can suggest is TUMS and milk or anything else with calcium in it, it soothes the pain. I hope it gets better or the baby comes soon!!
Oh Lord this sounds terrible. I had super bad relfux... But I only made it to 35 weeks, then in hospital on broth, water, and ice diet until I had Wes at 36 weeks. Needless to stay I was freaking starving and crying daily that week! Sorry hun. I didn't really worry about the nutrition to myself or the baby since I was in the hospital and they were watching everything. - and tums was really the only thing that helped...

I thought I had it bad until I read this. I am so sorry! That must be awful! I will agree with Carrie, water definitely upsets my stomach (strangely enough), but I found with this pregnancy that Gatorade is a godsend. I didn't think it would be true but it really helped me. With the reflux, I did a lot of creamy foods and milk and tried to eat frequently and small. And tums, yes, lots and lots of tums... and I hate Tums. I also consume mad quantities of Clif Builder chocolate bars. They have great protein and they actually taste like candy.

Good luck, only a couple weeks to go!

Oh Beth...I'm so sorry. I had AWFUL reflux my whole pregnancy...It got so bad at the end...I couldnt drink water or milk even, without feeling just awful. I didn't sleep at all for what felt like months...All day every day was just that awful feeling in my chest. My Dr gave me the ok to take Zantac and that helped a bit. Tums would make me vomit so it was really my only option...but it worked! Hope baby E comes soon!! That was the only thing that made it stop. I remember vividly, only a few hours after I had Kevin, I realized that the heartburn was gone. I was thrilled!
Thanks girls. The Dr. gave me prevacid which is helping a little .....I can't wait to eat a normal meal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
