Hey guys-

Some good friends of mine are in need of a new pediatrician and are looking for one from the areas mentioned above. They are driving from the Inland Empire. Anyone have any recs for a GREAT pediatrician? The child has some significant medical needs so I'm hoping to get some personal input on who to send them to. Thanks!

We go to Irvine Pediatrics off Sand Canyon in Irvine, love them!

I love Dr. Mackey at Pediatric & Adult Medicine on Newport in Tustin.  www.pam4kids.com  We have seen a couple of other docs and have been happy with all of them.  Dr. Dangvu is my second favorite, but Mackey is our primary pediatrician.  It's a really good practice.

Irvine Pediatrics...Dr. Elaine Gan-Yong

Unfortunately, I would not recommend Irvine Pediatrics for a child with significant medical needs.  We see Dr. Winkler and we really do like her - but the nursing staff leaves much to be desired in my opinion.  They have been pretty rude on many occasions and I was just commenting to my husband and some friends recently that I am glad I have had a relatively healthy child so I don't have to interact with them often.  I am in the process of actually seeking out a new pediatrician for my daughter's 2 year well check-up b/c I am tired of being treated like we are a bother to the nursing staff.  I am disappointed that we need to change b/c I do like Dr. Winkler, but I would prefer to have a more enjoyable experience overall when my child is sick.  Who needs more stress when they are trying to get help for their sick child?  Not me.  I know others may have had different experience, but this office just hasn't worked for me.  I wish I had a recommendation for your friend, but I just wanted to share my experience to give a different view before they drive all the way from IE.  I am actually going to check into Dr. Mackey as listed above - if I do  go to see him, I will share my experience here, too.

I have also heard from a lot of people that Dr. Winkler and some of the others at Irvine Peds are great, but that the nurses and office staff are not very good.  It's why I didn't even consider them.  I would agree with Molly (based only on what I've heard) to skip Irvine Peds for a child with serious medical needs.

thanks to you all for your helpful and honest input - I really appreciate it.

I would recommend Seaview Pediatrics they have offices in Irvine, Laguna Niguel, and Aliso Viejo. We see Dr. Gaitan and the office he doesn't go to is the Irvine one but on occasion when Colin has been sick we have gone to the Irvine office and seen Dr. Auth (sp) and he is good also. We picked Dr. Gaitan because he started his career as a neonatologist and with Colin being so early it was an extra piece of mind thing. We have had to see other doctors on occasion and they are all really nice and helpful especially when we need it. If you call for a sick visit the office staff does their best to squeeze you into one of their locations as soon as possible. The nursing and office staff really love kids and treat them with the care they need especially when they are sick.
