Now that Kevin will be 2 this Christmas and understands more, I'd like to start some fun family traditions with him. What are some fun traditions that your family does / did growing up?
My mom always let us open one present on Christmas Eve (always Christmas PJs), which we've done with Kevin for the past two years...but I'd like some more interactive traditions for us to do as a family.
Any and all ideas welcome!
Thanks!

Then Christmas day we would head to my grams and have an early dinner (around 1 pm) and open all of our presents from the rest of the family. As we got older we added to that tradition with things like, my sister and I purchased stocking stuffers for each other and we got to open those the morning of Christmas Eve. Then we would go shopping with my mom & dad (one with each parent) and shop for the other two. It was like a scavenger hunt and you had to do it without the other two seeing you & try to find a way to hide it in the car without them seeing too (cause we all came in the same car). The crowds are awful but since we were doing it as more of a game, you didn't really notice the crowds and it was always fun.

You can really use it as a tool for the children to behave in the months leading up to Christmas. It works wonders on my niece and nephew! Its amazing what this little elf can get them to do. If you don't know anything about it, check it out here.
Permalink Reply by Krista McAdam on November 10, 2011 at 1:12pm We always did the PJ thing too. We also started the Elf on the shelf with Parker last year and he loved it. My parents also started the tradition of giving us a Christmas Ornament each year. It was something relevant to the year. Either a big event that year or something we were really into at the time. Example the year we got married was a wedding themed ornament. Last year Parker loved trains and Elmo so i found an ornament with Elmo riding a train. When they are younger they can decorate the family Christmas tree with all their ornaments from each year. As my brothers and i got older and moved out of the house my Mom packed up all of our ornaments and now i have them at my house to decorate my own family Christmas tree. It's fun each year pulling out the ornaments to decorate the tree and having some from when i was growing up, to the year i was married, and year Parker was born.
