So I am a bit overwhelmed with staying home w/ baby and taking care of the chores...while teaching, I didn't feel guilty if the house wasn't spotless, plus my hubby and I justified having a housekeeper every other month, but now that I am home for summer, I feel like there's an expectation to have the house clean. Now that Brooklyn is crawling and pulling herself up on furniture, when she's awake, I find myself watching her like a hawk (no time for cleaning other parts of the house) and then when she's napping, I eat, take my shower, read a bit or check emails...which I do like some "me" time...anyone have a good schedule or strategy for chores?

Hi Dawn, I feel exactly the same as you. I'm embarrassed our home is such as mess even though I'm a SAHM. Cleaning is the last thing I want to do after taking care of Brigitte. So far what has worked is If I set a small goal like doing one chore a day, I actually get it done. Also, I try to tidy up after each night to sort-of "reset" the house. It's no deep cleaning but I figured it's better then having to spend a whole day cleaning. =)
Hi Dawn, There is a great site called http://www.flylady.net/ and she talks about dividing your houses into zones and cleaning for only 15 min a day. I use this method and it works great (of course moving to a smaller house really worked the best! but we all can't do that now can we?? hehehe) also For the kids who come to my fitness studio, we coral them in one of these with some toys and they go for about 40 min (that's as long as their attention span lasts!) really easy to set up and take down (I do it twice a say for them!)
What do you put the kids in?

I've found I get the most done in the AM, right when we wake up. Everyone is happy and I have energy.. and whatever doesn't get done, I throw it all in a closet and shut the door =)
so weird that that didnt show up!

Hi Dawn,

I am with you! Actually, I'm worse, because I get so frustrated with how messy the house is and it only builds since I sit around in it all day! It's a constant mental struggle to live up to my idea of what a SAHM should be or spend quality time with my daughter before she grows up.

My best strategy is to do a deep clean on the weekend (where dad is around both to help and to share baby duty) and then just try to maintain during the week. I find that dishes, meals, and laundry are about all I can realistically get done during the week. I really do try to have it clean before we go to bed (with Dad's help), but that's not always feasible. Once a week I drag myself out of bed early to try to guarantee myself a shower (LOL) and also get a little extra cleaning in before Audrey is up. Thankfully she sleeps until 7 or so, I know that isn't possible for everyone.

Hang in there! Sounds like we're all going through the same thing.
The best part of this is that I am sitting here reading this discussion INSTEAD of cleaning my house. I have no helpful advice, I am trying to convince myself that it is okay to re-hire my cleaners to come 1X a month while I am a SAHM.
TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!!
