My almost 5 month old son has been having blood in his stools for the past 1.5 months.  My Dr put me on an elimination diet and am currently avoiding dairy, wheat and soy.  Once I eliminated soy there were less bloody diapers and even days without any blood, but over the past two days the blood is back in every diaper.  My pediatrician is having me take my son to a GI Dr and I am so worried he is going to have me stop breast feeding.  My son is happy, gaining weight and not showing any signs of discomfort.  I am looking from insight if anyone has experienced something similar. Thanks in advance.

I went through this with my first. I was on an elimination diet for 6 months! We had slight blood in poop for awhile - even with the elimination of dairy, soy, nuts, etc.. They did find he had small anal fissures. They thought that could've been the cause. If he's happy and gaining weight that's a good sign. I highly doubt they will have you stop breastfeeding - they never even mentioned it to me. I hope everything is ok! Good Luck!!

Thanks for the reply.  6 months!! I have been doing this for 2 and its rough.  My son did have an anal fissure but it cleared up and the culture still showes blood.  We are going to the GI Thursday although the past few days his diaper has been clear. Were you ever able to eat a normal diet while breastfeeding?

I did cheat:) dairy could be to blame. We are almost positive it was dairy for my son. He still has dairy issues. I'm sorry! If the diaper is clear- ou should be moving in the right direction.
